Witch Costume Ideas
The Witch is one of the most prominent figures of Halloween. The Witch is often portrayed as ugly and wicked. They fly about on their broomsticks and mutters curses while stirring the cauldrons. In fact, back in the old times, witches are medicine women or, termed, healers. It is till Christianity became widespread that they were condemned and hunted down without mercy.
Witchcraft in medieval times was depicted as evil and the brooms, the cauldron and the cat were symbolically attached to witchcraft. However, all these were related closer to common household items and the tools used by women. Nevertheless, they became strong symbols in modern Halloween. Disguise tips for a well-dressed wicked Witch Halloween Costume:
1. For a touch of classical attire, select dark colored dress that looked ragged and tattered. For a modern flare, select bright orange colored dress that blends in with the color of the festival. Length of dress can range from mini-skirts to floor length and can have loong sleeves or none at all.
2. For the hat, select the black ot purple. It can be of different shapes or design. the most popular ones are tall hats decorated with artifical spider webs and even sneaky crawling spiders. Others include stars and moons decor as accessories.
3. For the wig, pick the long bushy type. Of course, if you are blessed with a long dark hair, a little homemade scruffy look can be done with a hair brush.
4. For the broom, any variety of brooms will suffice. But please, no mops.
5. For the cape, go with the traditional shabby looking cloth-type material. It must not be interpreted as a luxurious item but a necessity companion to the attire. Enhance with colored and worn-out patches.
6. For the shoes, black shoes for the classical witch and fancy bright matching colors for the modern witch. Keep to the styling requirements.
7. Complete the transformation with a little make-up. Bring out the creepiness using dark mascara, false dentures, black nails and black lipstick. Wicked looking is the name of the game. Apply green sticky gore on face made up of green food coloring and baby powder. Add prosthetic like warts, wrinkles and crooked nose for the realistic look.
